In July 2008, Center for Sport Leadership at VCU named Nathan Tomasini, Ph.D., as its new director. Tomasini previously spent four years at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he developed a successful undergraduate program in Sport Administration and helped establish its graduate degree into a top-tier program that utilized academic and applied work to prepare students for careers in administration of intercollegiate athletics.
Tomasini’s teaching specializes in the business and marketing of intercollegiate athletics and professional sport. In addition to teaching, Tomasini conducts market research, sponsorship valuation and economic impact studies for intercollegiate athletic departments and professional sport organizations. His client list includes the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Sky Conference, University of North Carolina Athletics, Gonzaga Basketball, Samsung Corporation, the National Hockey League, Ironman and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
Tomasini has published his findings in various journals — including Sport Marketing Quarterly and the International Journal of Sport Management — and presented research at several professional conferences, including the Sport Marketing Association, the North American Society for Sport Management and the International Sport Management Summit.
